Blizzard Clean-up Beginning

Blizzard Clean-up Beginning

Monday morning, January 25, 2016

The snow plowing and shoveling crews were overwhelmed by the amount and intensity of the snow storm over this past weekend.  Many snow crews are currently unable to perform physically and are taking a needed break during the day today (Monday).  Additional equipment is being rounded up and brought to the site as the contractor is able.  Only minimal progress is expected today (Monday) and work will pick up in earnest tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. The contractor is onsite today. All efforts to secure additional manpower is being undertaken and all efforts will be made to open the roadways to vehicle traffic as soon as possible. Your patience and understanding are appreciated during this weather crisis.

Single family homes on state maintained roads are service by VDOT (the VA Department of Transportation). You can follow VDOT operations at http://vdotplows.org/

Heavy snows occurred Friday night and continued through Sunday morning.  Total accumulations have reached 30 inches in many places with drifting upwards of 4-6 feet.  This is a crippling event that will take several days is clear.  Please prepare to remain in place until crews can open up community roadways and where possible, parking spaces.

Who Plows My Street?

TOWNHOMES – The Cascades Park HOA provides snow plowing services to the townhome sections only.  ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance is the contractor.  Questions about snow plowing services in the townhome sections should be sent to George Ellis at gellis@sfmcinc.com, or by text to (703) 509-4363.  Management is receiving all inquiries and will respond as able.  Information received will be used to help make field adjustments for truck routing and to target areas for snow removal by heavy equipment.

SINGLE FAMILY HOMES – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) provides snow plowing services to all other roadways, including Victoria Station Drive, Blossom Drive, Livingstone Station, Regents Park Circle and all roadways in the single family home sections.  You can follow VDOT plowing operations by logging onto http://vdotplows.org/

Plan

As soon as possible, and hopefully by nightfall, you can expect to see plow trucks and additional equipment working to open up townhome drive lanes and where possible, parking spaces.  A priority is to open the drive lane on Mountain Pine.

Use of heavy equipment is a relatively slow, but effective means to open up snowed in lots, starting at the front and working towards the rear.  Extracting your car will help us clear some parking bays.

How Can You Help?

Be alert too and aware of snow plow equipment.  Extracting cars will be a priority in the townhome sections and once done, loaders or similar equipment can open the lot.

We are assembling crews to be ready to help clear storm drains, mail box areas, etc.  Volunteer efforts to help maintain accessibility to curb inlets, mailboxes and school bus stops, are appreciated.

This snow storm clean-up will be a long duration event and the Board of Directors appreciates your patience during the next 2-4 days.
