Snow plowing, what to expect and how you can help 2016

Forecast

Heavy snows will occur starting Friday night and continue for the weekend.  It is possible that accumulations could reach 1-2 feet of snow, making this one of (if not the) largest snowfall event ever experienced in our community.  It is also likely that this will be a heavy snow, making road clearing difficult.  This could be crippling event, making roadways impassable for a period of time.  Please prepare to hunker down as we experience this 3-4 day event.

Who Plows My Street?

TOWNHOMES

The Cascades Park HOA will provide snow plowing services to the townhome sections only.  ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance is ready and able to meet the service demands of our community.  Questions about snow plowing services in the townhome sections should be sent to George Ellis at gellis@sfmcinc.com, or by text to (703) 509-4363.  Information received will be used to help make field adjustments for truck routing and to target areas for possible snow removal by heavy equipment.

SINGLE FAMILY HOMES

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will provide snow plowing services to all other roadways, including Victoria Station Drive and Blossom Drive, and all roadways in the single family home sections.  You can follow VDOT plowing operations by logging ontohttp://vdotplows.org/

Plan

During a large snow event, the contractor works to keep a “drive-lane” relatively accessible.  You can expect to see plow trucks working to keep this lane open overnight Friday, throughout the day Saturday and possibly into Sunday.  This drive-lane could cover over quickly due to continued heavy snow and strong winds.  In fact, plow trucks may be delayed in their efforts to maintain this lane during the height of the storm.

After the snow comes to an end, plowing operations will resume in earnest.  Snow “removal/relocation” will be considered, depending on conditions late Sunday, early Monday/Tuesday.

How Can You Help?

If possible, and if applicable, please park in your driveway.  This will allow plow trucks to more easily clear your street.  Also, plow trucks could repeatedly pile snow against your parked car or your driveway apron.  This could be unavoidable as plowing efforts work to maintain a clear drive-lane.  Please remove any trash or recycling bins from the common area and store appropriately.  We are assembling crews to be ready to help clear storm drains, mail box areas, etc.  Volunteer efforts to help maintain accessibility to curb inlets, mailboxes and school bus stops, are appreciated.

This snow storm will be a long duration event and the Board of Directors appreciates your patience during the next 4-6 days.
